  1. Hi

I am hoping you can please help me. I am writing a story set in Australia that takes place between the 2nd of March 1942 and the 28th of February 1954. In my first chapter my stay at home Dad has to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner on the 02/02/1942. Colin and Claire have a two year old daughter so he is preparing meals for the baby as well. Could you please suggest for me what he might put together on the day in question. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Kind Regards Mike Ryan

    • Hi Mike, have you read my posts about rationing over the past week? I went through the menu each day with recipes. In Australia rationing regulations for food and clothing were introduced in mid 1942 with tea the first item, so most foods would have been available. Small children would have eaten much the same food as adults, just modified. Porridge or bread in milk for breakfast, probably a cooked lunch (dinner) with meat and veg, tea with cup of tea, cake, or sandwich and supper, a lighter meal than lunch, maybe rabbit stew, followed by pudding like golden syrup dumplings. And lots of milk to drink. Hope this helps, Deb
